Perpectuated falsehood 1: Gardenia bread does not get mouldy because of the high amount of preservatives added.
The Truth: Calcium propionate is the common preservative used by bakeries worldwide. The allowable usage amount is different from country to country. In Malaysia, the permitted amount is 2,000 parts per million (ppl).
Base on regular tests conducted by independent labs, Gardenia Bakeries (KL) Sdn Bhd [GBKL] uses ONLY 20% of the permitted amount, the lowest amongst the major wholesale sandwich bread manufacturers. The hygienic environment of GBKL factories contribute to the products shelf-life.
Perpectuated falsehood 2: Gardenia bread with rat embedded.

Perpectuated falsehood 3: Gardenia is a crony company.
The Truth: Gardenia Bakeries (KL) Sdn Bhd is a subsidiary of a listed food group,
QAF Ltd, which also operates Gardenia bakeries in both Singapore and the Philippines.
Gardenia Bakeries (KL) Sdn Bhd is also an associate company of Padiberas National, BERNAS.

Perpectuated falsehood 4: The halal status of Gardenia products in Sabah is questionable.
The Truth: Gardenia Bakeries (KL) Sdn Bhd [GBKL] and Gardenia Sabah are two different companies and they are not related. These two companies have totally different policies, management and operational systems.
All products manufactured by GBKL are certified halal by JAKIM. It's internal halal committee, formed in 1994, continuously monitors and scrutinizes every aspect of halal issues. The committee is given full authority pertaining to halal and syariah matters.
